Description

The Filmolino SlideScanner is a device that makes it easy to scan slides in magazines fully automatic using a modified slide projector and a digital camera. It controls the slide projector and a digital camera using a cable release or an infrared remote control. Thanks to a built-in battery, no external power supply is required. A USB-C connector is available for powering the device and charging the battery.

It is operated with three buttons and a display on the device or via WLAN from a PC, smartphone or tablet.

The slide projector is controlled over the so called Remote Control Socket (usually a 6 pin DIN connector), which is standard on many projectors.

Compatible cables for connecting the camera are available for example here and here. The Filmolino Slide Scanner uses a three pin, 2.5 mm jack plug as it is standard for many remote releases.

Currently, the Slide Scanner has been tested with cameras from Nikon and Pentax. Basically, cameras from the following manufacturers are supported:

  • Canon
  • Nikon
  • Olympus
  • Pentax
  • Sony
  • …we are still testing!

Slide Scanner is developed in cooperation with Thomas Gade from photoinfos.de.

The project is open source and all data will soon be available for free on GitHub. Currently, only the first version of the Slide Scanner is available onĀ GitHub.

Detailed descriptions and instructions for modifying the slide projector from Thomas Gade can be found here (at the moment in german only):

Technical Details

The Slide Scanner is based on a Fire Modul from M5Stack. We have developed our own M5Stack module to control the camera and the slide projector.
